Runas, vikings, mitologia nórdica, “O Senhor dos Anéis” e death metal sueco formam a imagética de uma das bandas mais poderosas e consistentes do heavy metal na atualidade.
O Amon Amarth!
A banda surgiu em 1992, na Suécia, com uma fórmula que mesclava o que de melhor aquele país ofereceu ao metal extremo: peso sujo, timbres característicos, melodia bem administrada e apelo viking.
Seu primeiro disco só foi sair em 1998, intitulado “Once Sent from the Golden Hall”, onde apresentam um cartão de visitas impactante e mostram todo o potencial que tinham para ser explorado no futuro.
A partir daí, seguiram por uma discografia da altíssimo nível, com apenas um ou dois pontos medianos, com destaque a discos como “The Avenger” (1999 – com mudanças importantes na formação que ajudaram no desenvolvimento da sonoridade), “Versus the World” (2002), “With Oden on Our Side” (2006) e “Twilight of the Thunder God” (2008), que criaram a personalidade forte e beligerante do Amon Amarth, baseado em guitarras reconhecíveis de imediato e os vocais de Johan Hegg.
Para celebrar todo esse legado construído ao longo de 25 anos de estrada, o Amon Amarth lança “The Pursuit of Vikings: 25 Years in the Eye of the Storm”, um show/documentário contando essa jornada brevemente narrada por nós.
Quase uma epopeia viking dentro do heavy metal.
O mais interessante de “The Pursuit of Vikings: 25 Years in the Eye of the Storm” é seu caráter amplo frente os fãs, pois é quase um cartão de visitas para os novos, mas um certificado de pertencimento e fidelidade aos antigos.
Isso se dá pela profundidade com que narram sua trajetória dentro do metal, num trabalho de história musical que vai deixar o fã de longa data alimentado e satisfeito de novidades, ao mesmo tempo que apresenta um resumo da trajetória do Amon Amarth e coloca o novato a par de tudo o que precisa.
Além disso, creio que “The Pursuit of Vikings: 25 Years in the Eye of the Storm” pode chamar a atenção até mesmo de que nunca ouviu a banda. Em tempos de séries televisivas que levam aspectos históricos, medievais, e mitológicos para as telas, creio que muitos que não conhecem o Amon Amarth podem se deliciar com um show que leva muito fogo e uma batalha viking para o palco.
No material ao vivo temos como novidade o baterista Jocke Wallgren, aliás um posto ocupado por vários músicos. Integrante desde 2016, “The Pursuit of Vikings: 25 Years in the Eye of the Storm” é seu primeiro registro com a banda.
Aliás, da formação original, de quando a banda foi formada em 1992, em Estocolmo, na Suécia, ainda permanecem no Amon Amarth, Ted Lundström (baixo), Olavi Mikkonen (guitarra) e Johan Hegg (vocal).
Neste ponto cabe mais uma menção ao vocalista Johan Hegg. Nos shows aqui registrados fica nítido, e impressiona, como ele consegue ser bestial e, ao mesmo tempo, carismático, com sua alma de guerreiro viking duelando com sua simpatia. O cara tem o público nas mãos sempre!
Completa o time de músicos o guitarrista Johan Söderberg, na formação desde 1998, ano do lançamento de “Once Sent from the Golden Hall”, primeiro full lenght.
Ao todo são três discos que compõem o material. O primeiro traz o documentário que dá título ao álbum. Já o segundo nos traz dois registros ao vivo da banda no festival Summer Breeze, de 2017, em dois dias e palcos diferentes.
O repertório é irrepreensível em ambos os shows que trazem apenas uma música em comum: “Twilight Of The Thunder God” (que abre um dos shows e fecha o outro, criando efeito cíclico interessante).
O show do dia 16 de agosto é realizado num palco menor o que dá a dimensão exata do impacto que a música da banda tem sobre seu público e a troca de energia entre esses dois lados da equação, mesmo num espaço mais intimista
Nessa apresentação temos apenas músicas de sua primeira década discográfica, ou seja, de “Once Sent from the Golden Hall” (1998) a “Twilight of the Thunder God” (2008), com destaque a músicas como “Death In Fire”, “Versus the World”, “For the Stabwounds in Our Backs”, “Asator”, “Gods of War Arise”, “Fate of Norns”, “With Oden on Our Side” e a brilhante “Live For the Kill”.
No show do dia seguinte (que também vem em áudio no terceiro disco), mais grandioso, no palco principal, temos um repertório abrangendo toda a sua carreira, com direito a toda e explosiva produção de palco.
Essa apresentação é um perfeito um recorte do quão grandes e profissionais estes suecos se tornaram dentro do heavy metal atual. Fato justificado pela postura de palco dos integrantes e a precisão com que desfilam músicas como “War of the Gods”, “Destroyer of the Universe”, “A Loke Falls”, “Runes to My Memory”, “Cry of the Black Birds”, “Raise Your Horns”, “The Way of Vikings” (que vai soar familiar aos fãs de “Game of Thrones”) e “A Dream That Cannot Be” (com a participação de Doro Pesch) além do clássico “The Pursuit of Vikings” que abre o show do dia 17.
Cabe aqui o elogio à direção de imagens e à captação do som que estão impecáveis e só refletem o profissionalismo que vemos ser executado no palco.
Em suma, “The Pursuit of Vikings: 25 Years in the Eye of the Storm” é um documento que finca a bandeira do Amon Amarth como uma das mais importantes bandas do heavy metal contemporâneo.
O único defeito dessa edição nacional, lançada luxuoso digipack pela Hellion Records, é o fato do documentário não vir com legendas em português (ao menos eu não as encontrei – nem em inglês), o que pode atrapalhar alguns fãs que não dominam o inglês.
Isso posto, sendo você fã ou não da banda, “The Pursuit of Vikings: 25 Years in the Eye of the Storm” é um material obrigatório!
